Danish Girl Gets 8 Months in Prison for Filming 'Happy Slapping' Attack on Mobile Phone

The Eastern High Court has overturned a lower court's recommendation for a suspended sentence against a 16-year-old girl who used her mobile phone to film her friend's 'happy slapping' attack on a cyclist.

The girl will now serve eight months jail time. State prosecutor Henrik Aagaard was pleased with the verdict and said that the ruling sent a clear message to teens.

Happy slapping is youth fad in which an unsuspecting person is attacked while someone else records the assault, usually on a mobile phone.

This is the second time in two weeks that appeals courts have handed down a stiffer happy slapping ruling than a lower court's original decision.

Earlier this week, one of two boys who attacked a 12-year-old was given 40 days jail time instead of the initial lower court recommendation of a suspended sentence.
